Wear-it-well tips from Gretchen Monahan, co-host o f
T im G u n n ’s G u id e to S tyle .
UNLESS YOU’RE A TEENAGER, the most
flattering shorts hit just an inch above the
knees; two inches if you’re petite. “Pick a
slimming, fitted pair, but always remember
that ‘fitted’ doesn’t mean ‘tight,’ ” says
Monahan. “If they cling or gape, get a
larger size.”
THE FASHION MANTRA “black is
slimming” doesn’t apply to shorts or
skorts—the dark hemline that you see
cutting across the leg automatically puts
an emphasis on width. To look leaner,
choose a natural color that complements
your skin tone.
WANT A SEASONLESS SHORT? Choose a
pair made of lightweight wool—
it wicks
away moisture in summer and, when worn
with tights and heels, works in winter, too.
Pick a classic, tailored shape that won’t go
out of style, and switch up your belt to
keep your look modern.
